Spartans Split Saturday Twinbill with Saint Peter’s

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State split its Saturday doubleheader against Saint Peter's, falling 6-2 in the opener before responding with a 6-0 shutout victory in game two.

GAME 1 – Saint Peter's 6, Norfolk State 2

After two scoreless innings to begin the day, Saint Peter's broke through with a run in the third inning and added two more in the fourth to take control. The Peacocks pushed the lead to 4-0 in the fifth.

Norfolk State cut into the deficit in the sixth when Maddy Morris launched a two-run home run to right field, scoring Kailey Bryant and trimming the margin to 4-2.

The Spartans could not complete the comeback, however, as Saint Peter's plated two insurance runs in the seventh and held NSU scoreless in the bottom half to secure the opener.

GAME 2 – Norfolk State 6, Saint Peter's 0

The Spartans flipped the script in the second game, combining timely hitting and strong pitching to shut out the Peacocks 6-0.

Norfolk State struck first in the opening inning when Bristyl Riddick singled up the middle to score Morris.

The Spartans broke the game open in the third, scoring four runs:

  • Riddick delivered another RBI single to bring home Morris
  • Aniyah Michalak scored on a double steal attempt
  • Peyton Moran doubled to right field to plate Riddick
  • Moran later scored on a wild pitch

Bryant added the final run in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left-center, sealing the shutout victory.
