Jamison Earns Sixth Man of the Year as Four Spartans Collect MEAC Honors

NORFOLK, Va. — Four Norfolk State men's basketball players earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) honors Tuesday evening ahead of the 2026 MEAC Basketball Tournament. 

Elijah Jamison was named MEAC Sixth Man of the Year and earned All-MEAC Second Team recognition, while Anthony McComb III garnered All-MEAC First Team honors. Freshmen Adrean Newton and My'kel Jenkins were both selected to the All-MEAC Rookie Team. 

Jamison delivered a strong season for the Spartans, ranking sixth in the MEAC in scoring (14.3 ppg) and fifth in total points (443). He also averaged 3.0 assists per game, ranking ninth in the conference, while totaling 92 assists on the year. Jamison shot 79.7 percent from the free throw line and averaged 27.5 minutes per game. He scored in double figures 24 times, including three 20-point performances, and earned MEAC Player of the Week honors on Dec. 22. Jamison posted a career-high 30 points against Jackson State at the Chris Paul HBCU Classic and added 28 points against North Carolina Central and 26 against Grambling State. 

McComb started all 31 games for Norfolk State and led the MEAC in total points (527) while averaging 17.0 points per game, ranking fifth in the conference. He also averaged 4.3 rebounds per game and logged a league-best 1,057 minutes, ranking third in the MEAC in minutes per game (34.1). McComb shot 41.6 percent from the field, knocked down 2.0 three-pointers per game, and shot 78.6 percent from the free throw line. He recorded 27 games in double figures, including eight 20-point performances, and earned MEAC Player of the Week honors twice. His season was highlighted by a career-high 29 points against Coppin State, along with outings of 26 points vs. Virginia-Lynchburg, 25 vs. Elizabeth City State, and 24 vs. South Carolina State. 

Newton made an immediate impact during his freshman campaign, earning MEAC Rookie of the Week honors four times while starting 23 games. The guard ranked 14th in the MEAC in assists per game (2.2) and 15th in total assists (48) while finishing second on the team in assists. Newton also averaged 0.9 steals per game, ranking fourth on the team. He recorded two double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 14 points against Regent, and dished out a season-best seven assists against Jackson State. 

Jenkins also earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors twice while contributing defensively throughout the season. He ranked 16th in the MEAC in blocks per game (0.5) and 16th in steals per game (1.1), finishing 10th in the conference in total steals (29). Jenkins recorded three double-digit scoring performances, including a career-high 15 points against both Washington Adventist and William & Mary. 

The No. 4 seed Spartans open the 2026 MEAC Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 12, facing the No. 5 seed South Carolina State Bulldogs in the quarterfinal round. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
