Spartans Fall to William & Mary in 757 Showdown

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to William & Mary on Wednesday afternoon in a 757 Green and Gold showdown at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.

The Tribe claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point with victories on courts No. 1 and No. 3 to move ahead 1-0. Norfolk State's tandem of Marcin Andrzejczak and Marcin Dójczynski battled in the No. 2 doubles position, but their match went unfinished once William & Mary clinched the point.

William & Mary extended its lead during singles play, winning five of the six matches to secure the team victory.

At the top of the lineup, Patryk Kowal faced a tough test at No. 1 singles, falling 6-2, 6-1. Marcin Andrzejczak followed at No. 2 singles and delivered a competitive performance, but ultimately dropped a close 6-4, 6-4 decision.

The Spartans found their lone point of the match in the middle of the lineup. Szymon Malecki earned a strong straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, defeating his opponent 7-5, 6-2 to put Norfolk State on the board.

At No. 4 singles, Szymon Janzen pushed his match the distance in one of the most competitive contests of the afternoon. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Janzen responded with a 6-4 win in the second to force a deciding third set before ultimately falling 6-3.

Dominik Simunovic continued the fight for the Spartans at No. 5 singles, while Marcin Dójczynski delivered another tightly contested match at the No. 6 position. Dójczynski battled back after losing the first set, taking the second 6-2 to force a match tiebreak before narrowly falling 10-2 in the final frame.
