BALTIMORE, Md. – The Norfolk State softball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Coppin State, falling 16-0 (5 innings) in game one and 11-9 in game two.

GAME 1 – COPPIN STATE 16, NORFOLK STATE 0 (5 inn.)

Coppin State controlled game one from the outset, holding Norfolk State scoreless while plating 16 runs across five innings.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning and added five more in the second. Norfolk State briefly slowed the momentum in the third, stranding three Coppin State runners, but the Eagles broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to seal the run-rule victory.

The 16 runs allowed marked the most given up by the Spartans in a game this season.

Kailey Bryant recorded Norfolk State's lone hit, a double down the left field line in the first inning.

Amaya McPherson took the loss, allowing eight runs on nine hits over 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. Jaiden Henderson provided relief, tossing two innings with four strikeouts while surrendering seven runs on five hits.

GAME 2 – COPPIN STATE 11, NORFOLK STATE 9

Norfolk State's offense came alive early in game two, as the Spartans built a 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings. Maya Johnson delivered a bases-loaded double in the first to score Qween Edmonds and Maddy Morris, while Edmonds added a two-run single in the second to bring home Julia Kearney and Kachelle Refour.

Coppin State responded with five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-4 lead, highlighted by back-to-back doubles.

The Spartans answered with a four-run third inning to regain control at 8-5. Kachelle Refour drove in McKaley Kohn with a single before Kailey Bryant added a two-run base hit. Maddy Morris capped the inning with an RBI single to score Edmonds.

The Eagles added a run in the third to cut the deficit to 8-6, and after two scoreless innings, Coppin State surged ahead with five runs in the sixth to take an 11-8 lead.

Norfolk State mounted a late push in the seventh, as Edmonds doubled to score Kearney, but the rally came up short as the Spartans fell 11-9.

Edmonds led the Spartans with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, including two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Kearney added three hits and scored three runs.
