NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's and women's tennis teams are set to compete in the 2026 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championships this week at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
MEN'S OUTLOOK
Norfolk State enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed for the second consecutive season after posting a 12-10 overall record and a 3-2 mark in MEAC play.
The Spartans will open tournament play against No. 6 seed Coppin State at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. The winner will advance to face No. 2 seed North Carolina Central in the semifinals at 12 p.m. on Friday, April 24.
The championship match is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Norfolk State defeated Coppin State 6-1 in the teams' lone regular season meeting at the MEAC Tennis Roundup. The Spartans also earned a 7-0 sweep over Howard and a 5-2 victory against Morgan State during conference play.
WOMEN'S OUTLOOK
The Norfolk State women's team earned the No. 2 seed after finishing 14-9 overall and 5-1 in MEAC play, claiming a share of the regular season championship alongside Morgan State.
The Spartans will face No. 7 seed Coppin State in the quarterfinal round at 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 23. With a win, NSU will advance to face the winner of No. 3 Howard and No. 6 South Carolina State in the semifinals at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 24.
The championship match is set for 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 25 and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Norfolk State recorded 7-0 sweeps over Delaware State and Coppin State during the MEAC Tennis Roundup, while also earning a 5-2 win over Howard. The Spartans added a 6-1 road victory over South Carolina State and closed the regular season with a 5-2 win against North Carolina Central. NSU's lone conference loss came against Morgan State earlier this season.
ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Nine Spartans were named to the MEAC All-Academic Team, recognizing their achievements both on the court and in the classroom. Norfolk State was represented by three men and six women among the conference's 61 honorees.
MEAC student-athletes who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, as well as eligible transfers in residence for at least one year, qualify for the honor.
