Spartans Travel North for NEC Clash with Wagner

AUGUSTA, N.J. --- The Norfolk State baseball team heads to Augusta, New Jersey, for a three-game neutral-site series against Wagner this weekend at Skylands Stadium, looking to return to the win column.
 
THIS WEEKEND'S SCHEDULE
Friday, Apr. 10 – 12 p.m.
Saturday, Apr. 11 – 7 p.m.
Sunday, Apr. 12 – 1 p.m.
 
Fans can follow the action via live stats on the NSU athletics website or on X for live updates. NEC Front Row will stream Friday's and Sunday's games. Saturday's game will not be streamed.
 
ABOUT NORFOLK STATE
Norfolk State enters the weekend 12-17 overall and 9-6 in Northeast Conference play. The Spartans won two of three games against Coppin State last weekend (7-6, 21-2, 6-9) and will look to secure their first neutral-site win of the season.
 
Justin Journette leads Norfolk State with a .350 batting average, totaling 35 hits, 32 runs, 31 RBIs, 11 home runs and eight doubles. Thomas Ealey follows with a .349 average, recording 38 hits and 26 runs scored. Josiah Harrison (.349) and Jaydan Israel (.311) also hit above .300 this season.
 
Ethan Blakeney (3-2) anchors the pitching staff with a 4.11 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 35 innings. Parker Hampton (3-1) has added 27 strikeouts, while Walker Fuller (0-4) has recorded 22. Out of the bullpen, Yasseel Samboy (3-0) leads the team with a 2.82 ERA, 21 strikeouts and three saves.
 
ABOUT WAGNER
Wagner enters the weekend 11-17 overall and 9-6 in NEC play. The Seahawks won two of three games against Central Connecticut State last weekend (9-10, 8-2, 16-13) and will also play their first neutral-site games of the season.

Lukas Torres leads Wagner with a .430 batting average, totaling 43 hits, 34 runs and eight doubles. Dylan Immel ranks second on the team with a .364 average, along with 32 hits and 22 RBIs. Diego Tavearez holds a .354 average, while Joseph Mennella leads the team with seven home runs.
 
Joseph Stevenson (3-2) leads the pitching staff with a 5.26 ERA and 28 strikeouts. Keith Davis (1-1) owns a 0.240 ERA in seven appearances with 19 strikeouts and two saves. Colin Tirzuto (2-2) has made eight starts, posting a 6.26 ERA with 27 strikeouts.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Norfolk State trails 5-12 in the all-time series against Wagner, which dates back to 2013. Wagner swept last season's series (11-12, 8-12, 7-14). The Spartans will look for their first win in the series since 2024.
 
ON DECK
Norfolk State returns to Marty L. Miller Field next week for a midweek matchup against VMI at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 14.
