The 2014-15 season marks Tiffany Gwynn’s second year on the NSU women’s basketball coaching staff. Gwynn’s tasks include developing NSU’s post players, scouting and recruiting, working with the department’s compliance staff, assisting with film exchange, and overseeing the team’s fundraising efforts.
In her first year with the Spartans, Gwynn helped the Spartans finish 8-8 in MEAC play, their first .500 conference record in 12 years. She also helped tutor All-MEAC forward Rachel Gordon, the Spartans’ first All-MEAC first team player since 2002.
Gwynn is a coaching veteran with over 15 years of coaching experience. Prior to joining the NSU staff, she served as an assistant coach in the 2012-13 season at George Mason University. She served as the team’s recruiting coordinator, compliance liaison and was in charge of game preparations and game scouting.
Before coaching at George Mason, Gwynn served as an assistant coach at UNC Asheville. While at UNC Asheville, Gwynn was a member of a coaching staff that helped mentor guard Shonese Jones to Big South Freshman of the Year and all-freshman team honors for the 2011-12 season. Additionally, Leah Wormack was tabbed to the all-freshman team during the 2010-11 season and Kendall Shepard picked up 2010-11 All-Big South second team honors. Gwynn held a variety of responsibilities in Asheville including recruiting coordinator, scheduling, post player development and academic and admission liaison.
Prior to her arrival at UNC Asheville, Gwynn spent four seasons at Hampton University, where she was named the associate head coach her final two seasons (2007-09) after serving as assistant coach for two. During her time as an associate head coach, Gwynn helped recruit three all-rookie team members.
After joining the Lady Pirates in 2005 as an assistant coach, Gwynn helped lead Hampton to three straight winning seasons in the MEAC, capping her time at Hampton with a 10-6 conference mark in 2007-08, finishing tied for second in the league. As part of Walter Mebane's staff, Gwynn oversaw academics, daily practices, recruiting, post and preseason skill development and team travel.
From 1999-2004, Gwynn was a member of the coaching staff at the University of Southern Mississippi under Rick Reeves. For three seasons, she assisted in recruiting and player development and was responsible for team travel, game promotions, camps and community service. In 2002, Gwynn was named the recruiting coordinator, a position she held for two seasons.
Gwynn joined the staff at Southern Mississippi after a one-year stint at her alma mater Liberty University, where she got her collegiate coaching start as an assistant coach in 1998-99. After winning two Big South Tournament titles as a student-athlete, Gwynn helped lead the Flames to their third straight Big South championship in 1999, this time as a member of the coaching staff.
A 1998 graduate of Liberty University, Gwynn was a four-year letterwinner for the Flames and finished her collegiate playing career winning two consecutive Big South Tournament titles, including the first-ever BSC title in Liberty women's basketball program history in 1997. In 1998, the Flames went a perfect 28-0 in regular season action to capture their second Big South Tournament title.
Gwynn graduated from Liberty in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
