NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State head volleyball coach Jennifer Fry announced Friday the signing of three players to national letters-of-intent to play for the Spartans in the fall of 2008. The signees are Jennifer Monroe of Spring Valley High School in Blythewood, S.C., Jourdan Ellison of Clear Brook High School in Houston, Tex., and Breanna Allums of Chanelview High School in Channelview, Tex.
Monroe, a 5-10 outside hitter, had a productive senior year, recording 148 kills, 53 aces, and 20 solo blocks for Spring Valley. As a junior in 2006, Monroe was named Spring Valley's Most Valuable Player, Best Offensive Player and Best Defensive Player after totaling 139 kills, 59 aces, and 15 solo blocks.
“Jennifer is a physical and dynamic hitter who will develop into a player who can play the front-row positions very well,” Fry said. “She is very versatile and will help us in a variety of roles.”
Ellison is a 5-4 libero who was named to the All-District 24 5-A second team as a senior in 2007. She tallied 432 digs and helped Clear Brook to the 2007 Bi-District Championship game.
“Jourdan is a quick player who is passionate about volleyball and has an excellent understanding of the game,” Fry said. “She is very competitive and will see a great deal of time on the court as our libero.”
Allums, a 5-11 outside hitter, was named to the All-District 23-5A first team her sophomore, junior, and senior years.
“Breanna posses a well-balanced game, both offensively and defensively, and will provide us with another great option at the outside hitter position,” said Fry. “She is athletic, poised and has a great understanding of the game of volleyball.”
