DURHAM, N.C. – Norfolk State University field athletes Shanlynn Vaughn (Norfolk, Va.), Jonee Artis (Chesapeake, Va.) and Christopher Walker (Norfolk, Va.) qualified for the NCAA East Regional Track and Field Meet with their performances on Saturday at the North Carolina Central Last Chance Meet.
Both Vaughn and Artis, two freshmen, cleared 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches) in the high jump. They will join senior teammate Imani Moorman (Madison Heights, Va.) at the East Regional May 25-26 in Gainesville, Fla. Moorman had already posted several qualifying marks in both the high jump and triple jump prior to Saturday. Moorman also cleared 1.75m on Saturday in her final tuneup for the regional.
On the men's side, Walker, a senior, jumped 7.42m (24-3) in the long jump to earn a spot at the regional. Walker, who redshirted the 2006 outdoor season, also qualified for the regional in 2005 in both the long and triple jumps.
