GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Norfolk State University senior Chris Walker (Norfolk, Va.) and freshman Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) earned top-10 finishes in field events on Saturday afternoon to highlight the Spartans' efforts at the 2007 NCAA East Regional Track and Field meet, hosted by the University of Florida.
Walker placed ninth in the long jump, with a best leap of 24 feet, 2 ¼ inches. Sam Tilly of Campbell won the event with a top jump of 24-8 ¼.
Woods, in what should be his first of many NCAA competitions, was 10th in the high jump. He cleared 6-9 on his first attempt, but missed in three attempts at 6-11. Ryan Fritz of Penn State won the high jump, clearing 7-2 ¼.
Woods had also qualified in the long jump (17th place, 23-4 ½) and triple jump (chose not to compete at the regional).
On the women's side, senior Imani Moorman (Madison Heights, Va.) tied for 14th on Friday in the high jump (5-7 ¼). She capped her stellar Spartan career with a 19th-place finish in the triple jump (40-7 ½) on Saturday.
Carin Knight of Connecticut won the high jump by clearing 5-11 ¼, and Nicole Brown of Georgia Southern won the triple jump (43-6).
