NORFOLK, Va.
Michael Deloach (Rocky Mount, N.C.) scored 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting to lead Norfolk State to its third straight win and seventh in its last eight games, 82-67, in a non-conference matchup with Winston-Salem State on Monday night at Echols Hall.

Deloach scored seven points in a 22-3 first-half run for NSU, which led by as many 18 in the opening period. The Spartans, who shot 52 percent from the floor and 89 percent from the foul line, led by 14 at the break and were never seriously threatened in the second half.

Tony Murphy (Paterson, N.J.) added 14 points and Rashid Cann (Greensboro, N.C.) and Corey Lyons (Bronx, N.Y.) poured in 12 apiece.

Isiah Tucker had 16 points, Jamal Durham 15, Darrell Wonge 14 and Paul Davis 12 for the Rams (7-10), who are now 0-7 on the road this season.

WSSU scored the first five points after halftime, the last on a free throw by Tucker, to get within 43-34 with 18:05 left. But NSU outscored the Rams 14-5 over the next six minutes, capped by a layup by Joseph Dorsett-Jeffreys (Bronx, N.Y.) (Bronx, N.Y.), to take an 18-point lead.

NSU held the Rams at bay by making 13 of 14 from the charity stripe in the second half.

Murphy had four assists and three steals. Deloach and Kevin Worsley (Chesapeake, Va.) also had three steals apiece.

The Spartans host Hampton in the Battle of the Bay on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Echols Hall. NSU (5-1 MEAC), Hampton (11-7, 5-1) and Morgan State (11-8, 6-1) are all tied atop the conference standings with one loss each.
