PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Norfolk State men's cross country team used a balanced team effort to finish in first place at the UMES Hawk Challenge on Saturday morning.
Host UMES (42 points) took the top two spots, but the Spartans' top five swept third through seventh places to top UMES with 25 points on the same course where the conference championship will be held.
Senior
Dominic Luka (Marietta, N.Y.) paced the Spartans with a third-place finish. He covered the 8K course in 25 minutes, 32 seconds.
Jonathan Soimo (Kapsabet, Kenya), Keenan Harris (Norfolk, Va.),
Josef Tessema (Springfield, Va.) and
Hillary Cheruiyot (Eldoret, Kenya) followed closely behind, all finishing within 42 seconds of each other. Each of those four broke 27 minutes.
NSU has off next week before competing for the 2008 MEAC Championship on Oct. 25.
