SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — Noteisha Womack had game-highs of 25 points and 15 rebounds to help the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a 95-43 win over Norfolk State (0-8) on Wednesday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates (11-1) are tied for their best start in the last 14 years.
The 52-point win was Seton Hall's largest since a 92-33 win over Northeastern on Dec. 2, 1995. The Pirates' point total was their highest since defeating Monmouth, 95-59, on Nov. 27, 1993.
The Spartans scored the first four points of the game, but found themselves behind by two after two consecutive layups by Womack, the last coming with 16:05 left in the first half. A pair of free throws by Marquilla Evans (Portsmouth, Va.) forced the second tie of the game, 6-6, but Womack delivered on the other end to put the Pirates up for the remainder of the game.
NSU got within seven, 30-23, on a jumper by Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) with 5:21 left in the first half, but could get no closer.
For the Pirates, Jadis Rhodin had 16 points, Ebonie Williams had 12 and Kashmere Joseph and Kandice Green had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Shantel Brown had 10 assists, six steals and six rebounds.
Ebony Gibbs (Petersburg, Va.) led NSU with 10 points and Payne had seven points and two boards.
The Spartans continue their week-long road trip when they head to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on the University of Utah on Friday. Tip-off is at 9 p.m. Eastern.
