NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State freshman guard Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the week for the second consecutive time, the league announced Monday.

Payne, who has now scored in double figures in the last six games, totaled 46 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Spartans to a 1-1 mark last week. She recorded 20 points in the 94-88 overtime win against Howard. In the 76-74 loss to Bethune-Cookman, Payne scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half and finished the game shooting 8-of-18 from the floor and 6-of-10 from behind the arc.

On the season, she is averaging a team-leading 15.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
