Bowlers Finish 9-6 in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Norfolk State bowling team put together another solid showing last weekend at the Releaser's Invitational, finishing 9-6 over the three-day event.

The Spartans went 5-5 during the two days of baker games. On Friday, the Spartans downed Winston-Salem State, Florida A&M and North Carolina A&T. In Sunday's baker games, NSU topped South Carolina State and North Carolina Central.

The Spartans excelled in Saturday's team games, compiling a 4-1 record. NSU topped Louisiana Tech 754-752, thanks in part to a 202 game by Cathryn Myrick (Virginia Beach, Va.). NSU also defeated North Carolina Central 740-682, Winston-Salem State by a score of 753-642 and North Carolina A&T by a tally of 743-646. Antoinette Drakeford (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) spearheaded the win over WSSU with a season-high game of 177.

Myrick averaged a team-best 159 in the team games, while Lacey Smith (Oklahoma City, Okla.) averaged a 156.

NSU (34-31) is back in action this Saturday and Sunday at the Morgan State Invitational.
