NORFOLK, Va. – Ashlee Daugherty (Las Vegas, Nev.) defeated Lenice Boyd 7-6, 4-6 (6-0) at No. 6 singles to give the Norfolk State women's tennis team a 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win over Florida A&M on Sunday at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
NSU (2-3, 1-0 MEAC) won the doubles point and was tied at 3-3 with FAMU (0-7, 0-1) when Daugherty delivered the win with a tiebreaker.
The Spartans also got wins from Lerissa Morris (Kingstown, SVG) and Stepanka Velebova (Tachov, Czech Republic) at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. The doubles teams of Fiorella Valdivia (Lima, Peru) and Velebova and Morris and Jennifer Astbury (Chesapeake, Va.) won at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.
NSU takes on the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the NSU Tennis Complex.
