Spartan Bowling Falls to DSU in MEAC Semifinals

Final Results

HAMPTON, Va.
– The Norfolk State women's bowling dropped a 4-1, best-of-7 baker matchup against No. 2 seed Delaware State on Sunday morning in the MEAC Championship semifinals at the Sparetimes Bowling Lanes, ending the Spartans' season.

The Spartans, seeded seventh out of the eight teams after Friday's qualifying rounds, dropped the first three games in Sunday' best-of-7 series before rallying to win game 4, 184-150. Yolanda Roberts (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Lacey Smith (Oklahoma City, Okla.) both came up with timely strikes in game 4.

But DSU, ranked 11th nationally, was not to be denied. The Lady Hornets stormed back to win game 5, 230-136, to clinch the win.

Maryland Eastern Shore won its third consecutive championship, defeating DSU 4-1 later in the day.

One year after failing to qualify for the eight-team MEAC Championship, the Spartans finished in third place this season. NSU ended the season at 41-54, more than tripling their win total from 2007. All of the six NSU bowlers who were in uniform Sunday are underclassmen.
