Final Results
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Norfolk State freshman Janet Brown (Chesapeake, Va.) won the long jump on Saturday at the Tony Waldrop Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina. Brown reached a personal-best mark of 19 feet, four inches to take the long jump title and finished third in the triple jump (37-2 ½).
In the Invitational section of the triple jump, freshman Tanisha Jenkins (Louisa, Va.) finished fourth with a jump of 38-0 ¾. Also doing well in the field events was She'Anna Mitchell (Hampton, Va.), another first-year Spartan, who cleared 5-5 in the high jump to tie for fourth place.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Dania Sanford (Marshall, Va.), Brown, Wanetta Kirby (Richmond, Va.), and Cheri Hodges (Raleigh, N.C.) came in third in 47.80.
Freshman Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.) led the distance runners, finishing fifth in the 1500 meters (4:44.41).
The Spartans travel to Baltimore, Md. to compete in the Morgan State Legacy meet.
