BALTIMORE, Md.
- Norfolk State junior Kenrick Brathwaite (Nassau, Bahamas) jumped a season best 24 feet, 7 ¾ inches (7.51 meters) to win the long jump and qualify for the NCAA East Regional on Saturday at the Morgan State Legacy Meet.

Brathwaite became the third Spartan to qualify this spring for the regionals in the long jump, joining teammates Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) and Corey Vinston (Hampton, Va.).

Brathwaite's win was one of 10 top-five finishes turned in by the Spartans on Saturday. Aramis Massenburg (Ettrick, Va.) and Avery Wilson (Portsmouth, Va.) both improved on their season-best regional qualifying times in the 110-meter hurdles. Massenburg ran a time of 13.98 seconds to finish third. Wilson's time of 14.17 seconds was good for fourth place.

Another highlight for the Spartan men was the season-best time of 3:10.32 run by the 1,600-meter relay team, which came just short of regional qualifying standards. That team, which finished in third place, consisted of Tyrell Moon (Philadelphia, Pa.), Troy Wilkerson (Norfolk, Va.), Raymond Brown (Richmond, Va.) and Randy Lee (Washington, D.C.).

The Spartans will participate this week in the Penn Relays, their final tuneup before the 2008 MEAC Outdoor Championships on May 1-3.
