Meet Results

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Norfolk State women's track team racked up 24 top-10 finishes to earn a second-place finish at the 2008 Morgan State Legacy on Saturday.

One of the Spartans' top performers was Tanisha Jenkins (Louisa, Va.), who totaled 12 of NSU's 82 points. Jenkins jumped an outdoor season-best 38-7 ½ (PR) for a second-place finish in the triple jump and finished fifth in the long jump after hitting 18-5. She also participated in the high jump (10th, 5-1 ¾) and the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles (15.06).

Jenkins was far from the only productive Spartan. She'Anna Mitchell (Hampton, Va.) continued her success in the high jump, clearing 5-5 ¾ to finish second. Jonee' Artis (Chesapeake, Va.) finished fifth in the same event with a jump of 5-3 ¾.

In the other field events, NSU got top-five finishes from Candace Shoates (Newport News, Va.) in the pole vault (3rd, 8-11 ¾), Janet Brown (Chesapeake, Va.) in the long jump (3rd, 18-10 ½) and the triple jump (5th, 36-7), Sasha Wilson (West Columbia, S.C.) in the shot put (5th, 41-8 ¾) and Alyce Harrell (Columbia, Md.) in the discus (3rd, 137-7).

Dania Sanford (Marshall, Va.) led the sprinters by running a 24.99 in the 200 meters and qualifying for the 100m with a 12.27 in the preliminaries.

Distance runner Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.) ran a season-best 18:54.94 in the 5,000 meters to finish second and was followed closely by Tia Miles (Richmond, Va.), who finished fourth in 19:51.47.

Alyssa Pickett (Hampton, Va.) and Rachel Griffin (Hampton, Va.) finished third and sixth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Spartans travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take part in the Penn Relays. The women's college events begin on Thursday.
