BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State women's track and field team wrapped up its competition at the 2009 Hokie Invitational on Saturday with several top-10 performances following a successful outing on Friday.
Leading NSU in Saturday's running events were freshman Shanneka Claiborne (Ettrick, Va.), senior Tia Miles (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.). Claiborne finished fifth in the 200 in 24.79, Miles ran a personal-best 10:33.04 (8th) in the 3,000, and Chichester took fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:14.09.
In the field events, junior Jonee Artis (Chesapeake, Va.) finished seventh after clearing 5-5 and was followed by sophomore She'Anna Mitchell (Hampton, Va.) who finished 12th with a jump of 5-3.
Sophomore Wanetta Kirby (Richmond, Va.) led the pack in the long jump (12th, 18-6), while junior Janet Brown (Chesapeake, Va.) paced the team in the triple jump (11th, 38-4) and the shot put (11th, 39-8).
The Spartans travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday to participate in the UNC Classic.
