NSU Women Fall 79-40 at Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah
— The Utah women's basketball team defeated Norfolk State 79-40 on Friday afternoon at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah (7-6) was led by Halie Sawyer who had game-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Utes shot 51 percent (26-of-51) for the game and 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the floor in the first half. NSU (0-9) was limited to just 13-of-56 shooting from the field for the game  and scored a season-low 11 points in the opening period.

NSU did not get on the board until the 10:20 mark in the first half when Danelle Tate (Stafford, Va.) made the second of two free throws to make the score 19-1.

For Utah, Katie Whipple had 14 points, Cyndi Knight had 11 and Mandy Munns and Morgan Warburton had 10 points each.

Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) led NSU with 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the floor.

The Spartans resume MEAC play next Saturday at Coppin State in Baltimore, Md. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
