NORMAL, Ill. — Sam Pearson scored a game-high 21 points, and Southeast Missouri State used big runs late in the first half and early in the second to post a 75-54 win over Norfolk State on the final day of the Basketball Travelers Classic at Illinois State's Redbird Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The loss is the fourth in a row for the Spartans (1-5), who were paced by 19 points from Michael Deloach (Rocky Mount, N.C.).

The Redhawks (2-3) closed the half on a 17-5 run to take a 12-point halftime lead, then used an 11-0 spurt early in the second half to turn back the Spartans.

NSU guard James Williams (Miramar, Fla.) tied the game at 20-all after a steal and breakaway layup with 8:08 left in the first half. But SEMO outscored NSU 17-5 the rest of the half, getting six points apiece from Marland Smith and Cameron Butler, to take a 37-25 halftime lead.

The Spartans started the second half with a 10-2 run, including six straight points from Kyle O'Quinn (Jamaica, N.Y.), to close to within 39-35 with 17:30 remaining in the game. But the Redhawks scored the next 11 points, capped by an Anthony Allison layup, to surge ahead 50-35 with 13:52 left. The Spartans could not get within 12 the rest of the way.

Rob Hampton (Queens, N.Y.) scored 13 points and added five rebounds and three assists for NSU. O'Quinn just missed a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds, and Williams scored a season-high eight points off the NSU bench. Deloach had six boards, four assists and two steals and was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 67 points (22.3 per game) over the three days.

Butler had 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Smith added 13 points for the Redhawks, who shot 50 percent from the floor while holding NSU to 38.5 percent shooting.

The Spartans face James Madison on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va.
