NORFOLK, Va. — Vontisha Woods had a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds and Talnesha Woods had 16 points and 10 boards to lead the Winston-Salem State women's basketball team to a 78-57 win over Norfolk State on Monday night at Echols Hall.
With the win, WSSU improves to 4-22 and completed the season sweep of NSU (1-23).
The Lady Rams took an early lead and were up by 22, 30-8, with 7:59 left in the first half. The Spartans outscored WSSU 19-12 for the remainder of the opening period, but were still down 42-27 at halftime.
In the second half, NSU cut the deficit to eight, 50-42, on a layup by Sasha Wilson (West Columbia, S.C.) with 12:33 left in the game. But The Lady Rams went on a 17-2 run, capped by a pair of free throws by Kee with 7:20 left, to put the game out of reach. The Spartans could get no closer than 19, 72-53, the rest of the way.
Rene Rector had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists for WSSU, while MaLisa Bumpus had 11 points and four assists. Keoshia Worthy added eight points and seven assists.
Marquilla Evans (Portsmouth, Va.) led NSU with a game-high 19 points. Danelle Tate (Stafford, Va.) 13 points and Wilson grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and matched her career-best with six points.
NSU hosts Hampton on Saturday in the Battle of the Bay. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
