RALEIGH, N.C. — Junior Janet Brown (Chesapeake, Va.) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 6 ½ inches and hit a mark of 35-6 ½ in the shot put on Friday at the Reebok Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track on the campus of North Carolina State University.

Sophomore Wanetta Kirby (Richmond, Va.) finished 10th behind Brown in the long jump (18-1 ¾ ). Kirby ran a 14.88 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles and a 1:07.02 in the 400 hurdles.

Senior Portia Davenport (Dale City, Va.) qualified for the finals of the 100 meters by finishing 12th in the prelims in 12.16.

In the 5000 meters, sophomore Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.) finished eighth in 19:61.81. She was trailed by junior Tia Miles (Richmond, Va.) (15th, 20:33.46) and freshmen Jamia Hutto (Orlando, Fla.) (17th, 20:46.61) and Syeeda Gee (Philadelphia, Pa.) (18th, 21:02.93).

Other highlights of the day came from freshman Ashanti Matthews (Norfolk, Va.) who set her personal record in the prelims of the 100 hurdles in 14.74 and junior Allyssa Pickett (Hampton, Va.) who finished 13th in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.34.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday morning.
