Davenport Leads Spartans On Day 2 of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C.Portia Davenport (Dale City, Va.) finished 14th in the 100 meters in 12.55 on Saturday at the Reebok Raleigh Relays at Paul Derr Track on the campus of North Carolina State University. Davenport was the only Spartan to qualify for one of Saturday's final races.

Davenport also ran on all three relay teams that competed on Saturday. She joined Victoria Faulkner (Newport News, Va.), Tierra Flowers (Coatesville, Pa.), and Cheri Hodges (Raleigh, N.C.) on the 4x100 team that finished 11th in 47.14.

In the 4x200 relay, Davenport, Allyssa Pickett (Hampton, Va.), Ashanti Matthews (Norfolk, Va.) and Wanetta Kirby (Richmond, Va.) finished ninth in 1:40.08. Later, Pickett, Davenport, Kirby and Shaniqua Moore (Baltimore, Md.) ran a 4:01.30 in the 4x400 relay.

In the field events, Faulkner led the Spartans with a throw of 104 feet, 11 inches in the javelin. She was followed by Tiphani Harris (Chesapeake, Va.) who hit a mark of 85-2.

Alaina Hite (Chesterfield, Va.) finished 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 37-9 ¼ and was followed by Danielle Drummer (Norfolk, Va.), who hit a mark of 37-6 ¾.

The Spartans travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take part in the Florida Relays on Friday and Saturday.
