Brown Leads the Field at Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa. — Sophomore jumper Janet Brown (Chesapeake, Va.) placed eighth in the Eastern section of the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 10 ¾ inches on Thursday at the Penn Relays.

Junior Jonee Artis (Chesapeake, Va.), sophomore She'Anna Mitchell (Hampton, Va.) and sophomore Shanlynn Vaughn (Norfolk, Va.) each cleared 5-4 ½ in the College section of the high jump on Thursday, while sophomore Tanisha Jenkins (Louisa, Va.) finished 16th in the triple jump on Friday with a leap of 38-2.

Junior Allyssa Pickett (Hampton, Va.) ran a 1:02.09 in the 400-meter hurdles and joined with sophomore Dania Sanford (Warrenton, Va.), senior Portia Davenport (Dale City, Va.) and sophomore Wanetta Kirby (Richmond, Va.) to run a 3:56.36 in the preliminaries of the 4x400 relay.

The Spartans head down to Greensboro, N.C. on Thursday to compete in the 2009 MEAC Outdoor Championship. North Carolina A&T hosts the three-day event.
