EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Led again by Wyoming transfer Philemon Kimutai (Eldoret, Kenya), the Norfolk State men's cross country finished second on Saturday morning at the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.
Kimutai placed second overall in 25 minutes flat. Virginian's Emil Heineking won the meet in 24:04. The Spartans tallied 58 points to finish second behind U.Va. (28 points).
Freshman Vincent Rono (Bomet, Kenya) was next among NSU's runners, coming in 11th place in a season-best time of 25:40. Junior Josef Tessema (Springfield, Va.) was close behind in 13th (25:46). Sophomore Amos Kipkosgei (Eldoret, Kenya) and senior Jonathan Soimo (Kapsabet, Kenya) rounded out NSU's top five, placing 21st and 25th overall, respectively.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday at William & Mary's Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge.
