Final Results
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Wyoming transfer Philemon Kimutai (Eldoret, Kenya) finished the 8,000-meter course in fifth place in 26:14.28 to pace the Norfolk State men in their season-opener on Saturday at the UMES Lid-Lifter.
The Spartans tallied 47 points, close behind first-place Maryland (38) and runner-up Navy (44).
Kimutai was followed closely by another Spartan making his cross country debut, Vincent Rono (Bomet, Kenya). Rono came in sixth place in 26:14.26. New York Tech transfer Amos Kipkosgei (Eldoret, Kenya) was seventh in 26:22.33, junior Josef Tessema (Springfield, Va.) was ninth in 26:29.95 and freshman Kameron George (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the top five with a 21st-place finish (27:17.11).
The Spartans are back in action this Friday at the Hampton Invitational.
