NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State women's basketball Head Coach Debra Clark announced the signing of two local players to national letters of intent for the 2011-12 season in the early November signing period.
Clark signed a pair of post players in Ashley Dillard from Woodside High School in Newport News, Va., and Quineshia Leonard from Hampton High School in Hampton, Va.
“Both of these outstanding players will add good physical size and depth in the post for us,” said Clark. “They will be big contributors in our rebounding as well.”
Dillard, a 6-foot-1 post player, averaged 13.7 points per game as a junior last year at Woodside. She will play a solid 5 for the Spartans, said Clark. Dillard will pursue a broadcast journalism degree at Norfolk State.
“She provides a big, physical presence down low,” said Clark. “She is strong with the ball in the post, and her ability to rebound and play post defense will be a big asset to us.”
The 6-foot-3 Leonard contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds a game for Wilson High School in Portsmouth as a junior last season before transferring to Hampton High. A versatile athlete according to Clark, Leonard will play the 5 and also see some time at the 4.
“Quineshia has great size and her ability to get up and down the floor will bode well with the type of offense we are running here,” said Clark. “She has good hands and is very athletic. She will help us tremendously on both ends of the floor.”
