NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State head women's basketball coach Debra Clark announced on Tuesday the signing of three athletes who will play for the Spartans in the 2010-2011 season. They are 5-11 forward Kimberly Brown (Oakland, Calif./Monroe (N.Y.) CC), 5-9 guard/forward Sarah Daily (College Station, Texas/Blinn (Texas) CC) and 5-7 guard Tia Moore (Fayetteville, N.C./E.E. Smith HS)
Brown, Daily and Moore join 6-0 center Carlon Chambers (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS), 5-6 guard Raeshonn Corbo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus Catholic HS), 5-11 forward Cherise “Rachel” Gordon (Woodbridge, Va./Osborne Park HS) and 6-0 forward Destiny Spence (Metropolis, Ill./Massac County HS) who signed early with the Spartans.
Brown averaged 6.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in 28 games this past season to help MCC to a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA Division I national tournament. She shot 45 percent from the field (72-of-160) for the season and was third on the team in total rebounds (151).
“Kim is a very athletic and talented player”, Clark said. “Her ability to run the floor and rebound will make her a great addition to our post play.”
Daily scored 4.4 points and grabbed 2.3 rebounds in 27 games as a sophomore at BCC in 2009-10. In two seasons at BCC, she totaled 389 points (6.7 ppg) and 209 rebounds (3.6 rpg) in 58 career games. Daily earned Region XIV Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honors after averaging 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds her freshman year.
“Sarah will provide experience on the perimeter in the areas of scoring and rebounding,” Clark said.
Moore averaged 10.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 25 games during the 2009-10 season. Additionally, she was named to the All-Mid-South 4-AConference First Team and the All-District 4 First Team as a senior this past season.
“Tia's understanding of the game and work ethic will be great assets to the program,” Clark said. “Additionally, her ability to contribute from the shooting guard position will be a great benefit to the team.”
