Bell Highlights Great Day for Field Athletes at KSU

– A victory by sophomore Champagne Bell in the long jump highlighted a strong showing for the NSU women's track team's field athletes on Saturday at the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State.

Bell won the long jump in a season-best 18-11.25, her second straight meet taking a gold medal in that event. It was also the third straight meet in which Bell has topped her previous week's top mark.

NSU also tallied top-three finishes in the high jump and triple jump. In the high jump, senior Jonee Artis tied for third with a top height of 5-3. Alaina Hite placed second in the triple jump with a best effort of 38 feet. Ashanti Matthews was third (37-11.25).

On the track, Bell also placed second in the 200 meters in 25.22 seconds. Teammate Dania Sanford was fourth in the 200 meters (25.38). The Spartans 4x400 meter relay team earned a fifth-place finish.

NSU is back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech.
