CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The fall season came to a close for the Norfolk State women's tennis team this weekend at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, where the Spartans came up short at the ITA Atlantic Regional in both singles and doubles play.
Senior Naeemah Brooks was the lone Spartan to compete in singles action, as she found herself matched up against Maryland's Welma Luus in the first round of the main draw. Luus won in straight sets over Brooks, 6-1, 6-3.
Later, Brooks went up against Alicia Doms of Temple in the consolation bracket, where again Brooks fell short in a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Doms.
Brooks also teamed up with junior Rebecca Graff in the main doubles draw, but the Howard duo of Talia Johnson and Anne Ahikimien downed the NSU pair by an 8-1 margin. Sophomore Maryna Kariuk and freshman Kia Batiste also competed in the doubles bracket, and just like their teammates they too fell by an 8-1 score to Georgetown's Lauren Greco and Sophie Paranese.
With the fall season complete, NSU will gear toward its spring season which starts in late January.
