NORFOLK, Va. – Six student-athletes from the Norfolk State volleyball team earned MEAC All-Academic honors for their achievements in the classroom during the 2010-11 school year, the conference office announced this week.
Current senior Jasmine Frazier, juniors Charlotte Armstead, Chynna Blaker, Maatra Henderson and Ashley Scott and redshirt sophomore Omolayo Dada all were recognized by the conference for tallying a 3.0 or better GPA in the classroom.
Only two other schools in the MEAC, Savannah State and Hampton with seven, had more all-academic honorees than the Spartans. Like NSU, South Carolina State also had six student-athletes earn the distinction.
“I commend our volleyball student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2010-11 academic school year,” said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas in a release. “I would further like to congratulate the coaches, academic support staff and parents of these academic achievers for their contributions to the student-athletes' success.”
Any sophomore, junior and senior student-athlete with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, as well any transfer student-athlete who has been in residence at the institution for at least one year, is eligible for all-academic accolades.
NSU completed the 2011 season with a 9-16 overall record, including 5-7 in conference play.
