James Madison Sweeps NSU, 7-0

HARRISONBURG, Va.
– James Madison won in straight sets in all six singles matches on the way to a 7-0 win over the Norfolk State women's tennis team Friday afternoon at the Convocation Center Courts.

The Dukes were victorious in all three doubles matches as they ran their record to 6-5 on the season. NSU dropped to 2-11 on the season.

Starting off in doubles, NSU came closest to winning at No. 1 doubles, where junior Naeemah Brooks and freshman Gabriella Jonsson fell to Kinsey Pate and Michelle Nguyen, 8-4. The Spartans dropped the other two doubles matches by 8-1 scores.

Senior Jennifer Astbury and sophomore Rebecca Graff lost to Katherine Bulling and Ruxandra Andriescu at No. 2, while freshman Maryna Kariuk and senior Chenge Tsapayi came up short against Megan Douglass and Jacqueline Palmucci at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Astbury faced Pate at the No. 1 slot, where Pate earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over her Spartan opponent. Nguyen downed Jonsson at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-3, while Palmucci took care of Brooks at the third singles slot, 6-0, 6-1.

In the last three matches, Douglass swept Tsapayi at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1, while Bulling won in straight sets over Graff at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Kariuk fell victim to Andriescu at the sixth singles spot, 6-1, 6-0.

NSU will face Virginia State next Friday at 4 p.m. in a road contest in Petersburg, Va.
