Final Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State women's track team opened its 2011 outdoor season on Saturday by capturing five first-place finishes at the Tribe Open hosted by the College of William & Mary.
Seniors Shanneka Claiborne and Wanetta Kirby each contributed to two of those. Claiborne won the women's 100 meters (12.02 seconds) while Kirby won the 100-meter hurdles (14.37). Those two then teamed with Dania Sanford and Rayiana Johnson to post a winning tie of 46.54 seconds in the 4x100.
Elsewhere on the track, Sanford placed second in the 400 meters (58.11) and Ashanti Matthews was third in the 100 hurdles (14.68).
NSU also won a pair of field events. First-year sophomore Champagne Bell won the long jump with a personal outdoor-best distance of 20 feet, 0.5 inches. Junior Alaina Hite won the triple jump with a best effort of 38-0.25. Sophomore Kaleena Gray posted a pair of top-five finishes, taking fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus.
The Spartans are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Relays.
