Culver Named MEAC Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Junior Arsenio Culver of the Norfolk State men's tennis team was named the MEAC Player of the Week in an announcement by the conference office late Friday.

Culver carded a perfect 4-0 record in two matches last week, winning at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as NSU's top player ran his overall record on the season to 7-5 in singles and 6-3 in doubles.

The Philadelphia native defeated James Madison's Greg Vladimirsky, 6-2, 6-1, in their match on March 18 after teaming with junior Ben Marks to take down Matt King and Bertrand Moulin in doubles, 8-5, earlier in the day.

The next day in a match at Christopher Newport, Culver knocked off Eric Shulman at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and again partnered with Marks in doubles, defeating Matt King and Garrett Widing, 8-2. Culver has won five of his last six singles matches and four in a row in doubles.

The Spartans will return to the court Sunday with a match at Longwood at 1 p.m.
