NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior Philemon Kimutai was named the MEAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Kimutai ran a personal-best 8,000-meter time of 24 minutes, 44.92 seconds to take second place overall and lead the Spartans to the team title at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational last Saturday. Both Kimutai and teammate Josef Tessema broke the previous course record that they shared. The pair clocked identical times of 24:59.12 two weeks prior at the UMES Lid-Lifter.
This is Kimutai's first MEAC weekly award of the season. Kimutai and Tessema have combined to win the award all three times it has been handed out so far this fall.
