NEWARK, N.J. – Up by just two at the break, Seton Hall outscored the Norfolk State men's basketball team by 11 in the second half on the way to a 78-65 victory over the Spartans Monday night at the Prudential Center.
The Pirates' Fuquan Edwin tallied 23 points, 10 rebounds and six steals, and Seton Hall out-rebounded the Spartans by 13 to drop them to 1-1 on the year. Junior
Pendarvis Williams had his eighth career 20-point game for NSU, posting a team-high 20 on the night.
The contest was part of the first round of the 2012 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament that concludes this weekend. In front of a crowd of more than 6,100, Seton Hall improved to 2-0 on the year with the win.

Malcolm Hawkins was the only other Spartan player in double figures with 15. Freshman
Rashid Gaston had his second strong outing in a row off the bench, going for nine points and five rebounds.
NSU converted on just 18-of-56 from the floor (32.1 percent), compared to Seton Hall's 46.6 percent clip on 27-of-58 shooting. Three days after outscoring Rhode Island by 20 in the paint in the season opener, the Spartans found themselves on the reverse end. Seton Hall finished the game with a 32-12 advantage in points in the paint.
After the Pirates scored five of the first six points of the game, the Spartans tied it up at 5-5 and then again at 12-all when Hawkins drained a 3-pointer at the 11:22 mark. NSU called timeout a little more than a minute later when Seton Hall opened up a six-point lead, 18-12, following a Kyle Smyth fastbreak trey.

Kievyn Lila-St. Rose finished off a 9-2 run for the Spartans with a 3-pointer with 7:42 to go in the first half, giving NSU its first and only lead of the game. The Pirates countered with a 3-pointer of their own, and then the teams went back and forth the rest of the half.
Senior #A.J. Rogers# hit a pair of free throws shortly after the under-4 media timeout, and Gaston capped the scoring in the first stanza with a shot in the paint with just 23 seconds left to cut the Pirate lead to 31-29.
Along with Edwin, Eugene Teague also earned the double-double with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 11 rebounds. Brandon Mobley also helped the Pirates finish with a 44-31 advantage on the glass with 10 boards.
The Pirates came out of the break and immediately went on a 9-2 run over the first three and a half minutes to take a nine-point advantage in the second half. Williams drained a trey and a pair of free throws at the 13:34 mark to get NSU to within six, 42-36.
The Spartans got as close as four, 44-40, when Hawkins converted a layup, but Seton Hall extended the lead into double digits and proceeded to push the advantage to 13 with less than 10 minutes left. The Pirates kept their lead around 12 points for the next seven minutes and cruised to the win.
Edwin scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the second half. Despite forcing 17 turnovers, NSU was only able to convert those into nine points.
Senior
Rob Johnson added eight points for the Spartans.
The Spartans will stay on the road for the next stretch of their schedule, beginning Thursday at Longwood and finishing on Saturday and Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Arena for the second part of the Hall of Fame tournament.
