NORFOLK, Va. - Champagne Bell placed second on Friday afternoon in the women's long jump at the prestigious Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Bell saved her best for her last attempt, jumping 19 feet, 11 inches. That came just 0.75 of an inch away from winner Nicole Cummings of Miami (Fla.). It was also seven and a half inches better than her previous best this season, at CNU back in December.
In other events Friday, junior Kellen Rutto ran a season-best time of 19 minutes, 0.76 seconds to finish ninth in the 5,000 meters. That clocking is 29 seconds better than her previous season-best.
For the women, senior Shanneka Claiborne will compete in the 200 meters on Saturday.
