FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior
Shanneka Claiborne ran a season-best 200 meter time on Saturday to cap a strong showing for the Spartan women's track team at the Tyson Invitational.
Claiborne placed fourth in her heat with a time of 24.61 seconds, which is also the best by a Spartan woman this season. Claiborne placed 35th in a deep field of 74 sprinters.
Though they sent just three athletes to Tyson, the NSU women fared well at one of the top indoor meets in the nation. Junior Champagne Bell also set an indoor-best with her second-place finish in the long jump on Friday, and junior Kellen Rutto did likewise in the 5,000 meters.
That trio will lead the Spartan women into the 2012 MEAC Indoor Championship next Thursday through Saturday in Landover, Md. NSU finished second last year and won the title in 2010.
