Dick Price Stadium to Host NSU Relays Collegiate/Open Track Meet on Saturday

NSU Relays Event Schedule  |  Performance List/Heat Sheets

NORFOLK, Va.
– William “Dick” Price Stadium will be the site for the 2012 Norfolk State University Relays collegiate/open track and field meet this Saturday, April 14.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for youth age 7-17, and children 6 and under will be admitted free. The meet gets underway with the men's and women's shot put and triple jump events at 10 a.m. The first running event is the men's 5,000 meters, which starts at 10:30 a.m. NSU's 11 seniors - seven from the men's team and four from the women's team - will be recognized Saturday, and members of the 2010-11 men's and women's track teams will receive their MEAC championship rings.

Colleges scheduled to compete this weekend include the men's and women's teams from NSU, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, St. Augustine's, Virginia State, Virginia Union, Medgar Evers, Bowie State, Claflin, Virginia Wesleyan and Virginia University-Lynchburg. A total of 427 athletes are entered in the meet from participating schools, track clubs and unattached athletes.

This will be the first collegiate track meet at NSU since the Dick Price Stadium track surface was renovated in the summer of 2010. The resurfacing included installation of a BSS 2000 track, a class I International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) surface which is used at many of the top tracks in the world. The BSS 2000 surface is also used at such top facilities as the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, which hosted the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the 2008 United States Olympic Trials. New shot put and discus throwing areas were also installed at the east and west ends of the track adjacent to the stadium.

The first meet held on the new track was the 2010 AAU Junior Olympics, which brought nearly 12,000 competitors to the NSU campus in July and August of 2010. Thirty-six AAU Junior Olympics meet records were set during that competition.

NSU's new Daktronics LED video display board on the west end of the stadium will also be operational for the first time at Saturday's meet.

Complete results will be posted at www.nsuspartans.com following the meet on Saturday evening.
