Bell Finishes 11th in Long Jump at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Champagne Bell's 11th-place finish in the college long jump led the way for the Spartan women's track team last weekend at the Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field.

Bell's top mark was 19 feet, 4.25 inches. She was one of just two Spartans who competed in individual events at the meet. The other was junior Kellen Rutto, who was 30th in the college 5,000 meters (19 minutes, 6.14 seconds).

NSU also had three relay teams compete at Penn: the 4x200, 4x400 and sprint medley relay groups. The top finishing relay was the 4x200 team that placed fifth in its heat and 31st overall in a time of 1:42.17. Bell, Torie Cunningham, Shanneka Claiborne and Kaydianne McKenzie comprised that squad.

The Spartans now turn their sights to next week's MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held May 3-5 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. NSU is looking to win its second straight MEAC outdoor championship.
