Bell Takes Top 10 Finish in Long Jump at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior Champagne Bell placed seventh in the invitational section of the women's long jump to highlight the weekend for the Spartan women's track and field team at the Florida Relays.

The 2012 MEAC indoor long jump champion, Bell posted a top jump of 19 feet, 8.25 inches in her first outdoor long jump competition this spring.

Bell also contributed to the Spartan women's two relay team races on Saturday. She and teammates Torie Cunningham, Kaydianne McKenzie and Shanneka Claiborne placed 31st out of 45 teams in the 4x100 relay with a time of 46.60 seconds.

Bell, Claiborne, Cunningham and Jamia Hutto finished 11th in the 1,600 meter sprint medley in a time of 4:04.40, an improvement of approximately 10 seconds over the Spartans' time in that event from the Raleigh Relays last weekend.
Junior Kellen Rutto, running the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the first time this spring, placed 16th in a time of 11:41.69.

The Spartans are back in action next weekend when they host the NSU Collegiate Relays on April 14 at Dick Price Stadium.
