FARMVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team competed this weekend at the Longwood Classic in Farmville, Va., and recorded a couple of wins.
Sophomore Kia Batiste and senior Rebecca Graff competed in Flight B of the doubles bracket where they lost to Longwood's Nicole Parker and Hannah Hill 8-1 before defeating Julia Aguilar and Aissa Muamba, 8-0. Batiste and Graff also suffered an 8-6 loss to Morehead State's Lissa Pacheo and Brooke Helms.
Freshman Andrea Macchiavello and sophomore Mafalda Lhorca fell to Mia Ramic and Oleysa Palko of North Carolina Central, 8-5, in Doubles Flight A. They defeated Victoria Cran and Sandrine Beaule of Morehead State, 9-8, before losing to Longwood's Bethany Law and Norfolk State's Maryna Kariuk.
Junior Maryna Kariuk defeated Morgan Wright of Morehead State 6-2, 6-3, before losing to Longwood's Nicole Parker, 6-7, 6-1, 10-2 in Flight C of the singles bracket
Graff also competed in Flight C where she suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Longwood's Bethany Law before defeating Sandrine Beaule of Morehead State, 6-1, 7-6.
Macchiavello lost to North Carolina Central's Oleysa Palko 6-4, 6-4, in Flight A of the singles competition. She also lost to Morehead State's Victoria Cran 6-4, 6-2, and Malin Algurin of Longwood, 8-1.
Batiste and Lhorca competed in Flight B of the singles bracket. Batiste suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Longwood's Sarah Moomau, and a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Lissa Pacheo of Morehead State. Lhorca fell to Longwood's Allie Shulman 6-0, 6-0. She defeated North Carolina Central's Rebecca Wood by default before suffering an 8-1 loss to Sarah Moomau.
The Spartans return to action on Oct. 5-7 when they travel to Williamsburg, Va., for the William & Mary Invitational.
