NSU Takes Third at Christopher Newport Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior Damtew Adnew led all NSU runners to help the Spartans finish third at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday.

Adnew finished seventh with a season-best time of 26:10.50. Freshman Sammy Kiptoo placed eighth with a running time of 26:14.50.

Rounding out the top 30 finishes for NSU were senior Kipchirchir Kiptoo (26:43.90), redshirt freshmen Marquis Worsley (27:47.60) and William Brown Jr. (28:26.90), and sophomore Joshua Carino (28:28.10). They finished 15th, 25th, 29th and 30th, respectively.

Sophomore Juliun May placed 38th with a time of 29:59.20 and freshman Michael Evans finished 40th with a time of 30:39.10.

The Spartans finished with 84 points behind William & Mary (33) and VCU (36). North Carolina A&T (89) placed fourth, Mount St. Mary's (133) finished fifth and Hampton (157) was sixth.

NSU will compete at the MEAC Championship in Princess Anne, Md., on Oct. 26.
