NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior Fiona Masai was named the MEAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

A native of Eldoret, Kenya, Masai placed third overall at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday in Newport News, Va., with a time of 23:02.60.

The Spartans also placed third in the team competition with 52 points. William & Mary and Mount St. Mary's tied for first place with 49 points. Virginia Commonwealth placed fourth with 78 points and fellow MEAC opponent North Carolina A&T placed fifth with 125 points.

NSU will compete at the MEAC Championship on Oct. 26 in Princess Anne, Md. The race is set to begin at 9:45 a.m.
