SMYRNA, Del --- The Norfolk State women's cross-country team secured back-to-back MEAC Championships Saturday afternoon in Smyrna, Delaware.
NSU finished 2-3-5-6-9-13-26 on the 5k course for 25 points to win the championship. Howard closely followed, finishing with 39 points while North Carolina Central took third place with 91 points.
Senior
Mercyline Kimaiyo earned the top finish for the Spartans, clocking in at 17:24.50, placing second. Freshman
Yvone Sandui closely followed, finishing in third place (17:42.10).
Sophomore
Leanna Lewis placed fifth (18:21.40), while sophomore
Sonia Koech finished sixth (18:28.60). Freshman
Abigael Chebet rounded out the Spartans' five finishers with a ninth-place finish (18:47.70).
Junior
Emani Thompson posted a 13th-place finish (19:07.20) while freshman
Amira Dailey clocked a 26th-place time of 20:13.10.
Head Coach
Kenneth Giles earned the Most Outstanding Coach award following the meet. With the conference title win, the Spartans will appear in the NCAA Southwest Regional, taking place on Friday, Nov. 15 in Rock Hill, S.C.
