Wallace, Howell Lead the Way for NSU Women's Track at UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.
– Qua'Nesha Wallace registered a personal-best in the 60 meters and Kiara Howell won a pair of events to lead the way for the NSU women's track team at the Coach O Collegiate Invitational on Friday.

In the Spartans' first meet of the indoor season, Wallace qualified with the third-fastest time in the preliminaries (7.74), then registered a PR of 7.50 to finish as runner-up in the 60m finals. That was nearly two-tenths of a second faster than her previous PR of 7.68.

Howell picked up where she left off from a strong outdoor season by winning both throwing events she entered. Howell won the shot put with a top throw of 45 feet, 7.25 inches and also easily won the weight throw with a top mark of 50-2.

Sophomore Jazmine Vaughan also performed well. She also clocked a PR, registering a time of 8.75 seconds to finish as runner-up in the 60 meter hurdles.

In other events, Adugna Desalegn was third in the 3,000 meters in 10:56.65, and Venus Whitties took third in the high jump with a top height of 5-1.

NSU is off for exams and the holiday break before turning to action at the Penn State Relays on Jan. 11.
