MEAC Indoor Results - Day 1
LANDOVER, Md. – Junior Champagne Bell won the conference long jump title for the third consecutive year on Thursday to help the Norfolk State women's track team get out to a slim lead after the first day of MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
The Spartan women have 14 points, just ahead of Florida A&M and Hampton, which both have 13.
Bell jumped a season-best 19 feet, 8.25 inches, nearly eight inches better than runner-up Teiara Denmark of Hampton.
In the only other event final contested on Friday, freshman Rachel Webb placed fifth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 18 minutes, 43.82 seconds.
The championships continue Friday with the final men's heptathlon events, which begin at 9 a.m. Other field events on Friday's slate include the women's pentathlon, men's and women's high jump, and men's and women's weight throw. Semifinal track events include the men's and women's 60m hurdles, 60m dash and 400m dash. The day closes out with the men's and women's distance medley relays.
